Cosmetics
Cosmetics are hugely important in a woman’s life and it can be very difficult to find a product which will not aggravate skin which is prone to eczema. It can be very challenging.
It is important to only use hypoallergenic and non-comedongenic cosmetic products.
Hypoallergenic according to Wikipedia means: "below normal" or "slightly" allergenic. It is used to describe items (especially cosmetics and textiles) that cause or are claimed to cause fewer allergic reactions. In some countries, there are allergy interest groups that provide manufacturers with a certification procedure including tests that ensure a product is unlikely to cause an allergic reaction, but such products are usually described and labelled using other but similar terms. The cosmetic industry has been trying for years to establish an industry standard for use of the term.

Finding hypoallergenic cosmetics can be difficult as they are not in abundance although it is getting easier: some brands are finally waking up to the fact that not everyone has trouble free skin – we all want to look beautiful whatever the condition of our skin. Many organic markets/shops sell hypoallergenic cosmetics and are more affordable than the more well known brands. |
Non-comedongenic is a product that does not block the pores of the skin. Cosmetic products that are non-comedongenic (referred to as non-occlusive) do not block the pores therefore prevent skin irritation/pimples.
Avoid cosmetics containing butyl, ethyl parabens, methyl and propyl as they can cause irritation to the skin. Make sure you read the labels and speak to a trained consultant.
Mineral makeup which is made from the earth’s natural minerals has excellent application properties and significant skin benefits. Mineral makeup is made up of only natural ingredients and minerals, untouched by any form of synthetic chemical that usually causes irritation and eczema flare ups. Its crushed mineral composition means that it can be easily applied over the skin. Its natural ingredients protect the skin against irritation and allows the skin to breathe. These types of products are not only better for the skin they also provide a flawless look.
Always seek advice from a trained makeup specialist or your doctor/dermatologist. They may be able to suggest a product for you to use.
