X-ray treatment

X-ray treatment - Jane, Harrogate, UK

I have eczema mainly on my hands, which makes my job as a Nurse very difficult at times. A couple of years ago it was so bad I was referred to the Dermatology Dept at our local Hospital.

I was fed up of trying different steroid creams over the years. I have also tried another cream prescribed which works on the immune system, which did not help.

The Dermatologist was very kind and understanding this time and said I could try X Ray treatment. I had this treatment and it was successful. I was free of eczema for over a year. It felt great to have no pain on my hands and to be able to do my nursing without having sore bleeding hands.

Only recently the eczema has returned. I had got used to having lovely skin and now its back. I was told that the X Ray was very strong treatment and can be repeated in 5 years if necessary. I don't understand why it has not lasted longer and wondered if you have any information about this.

I had got used to not having to apply steroid creams. I have also tried Homeopathic Therapy but could not afford to continue and had no results.

All Doctors seem to do is prescribe Steroid cream/ointments you get fed up of being offered a stronger one.

I am very grateful for any help or advice.

I love my work as a Nurse. I wear gloves and wash my hands with Aqueous cream and try to moisturise them when I can. Thanking you Jane.

I am married with two children and fortunately for them they do not have eczema at present. (Both children had it as babies/infants). (September 2007) Contact Jane
